Four Fresh Water Trout Fishing Lures

One of the most challenging fishing you can take up is freshwater trout. It is also the most enjoyable. This kind of fishing never gets boring. A big part of trout fishing is the lures. Below are the four most common lures you will find in any sport fishing or sporting goods store.

Trout Flies

Flies are one of the most popular trout lures. They cover a large range of insects in every stage of development. Depending on the kind of environment you fish, you will need specific flies. Read up on the kind of flies to make sure the trout will take your hook. For most trout fishermen the two most popular are dry flies and wet flies. Nymphs are great for slower, shallow waters with occasional knee-deep patches and streamers are for the bigger mouth trout.

Early Spring Trout Spinners

Trout spinners come in all shapes and sizes. The right spinner depends on the waters you fish. A spinner tries to mimic the flash made by the creek chub when it darts through the stream. It is most effective in early spring when the streams winter’s run off occurs.

Trout Jigs

Jigs are used in deeper waters. They are fun to use and give a lot of enjoyment. The best way to fish with a jig, is with a long pole. The further you get the jig from yourself the more comfortable trout will be around its potential meal. If the trout can see you, it may ignore the jig. You want to make the jig look like it’s wounded.

Attach some weight to the line and send it off. When the jig hits the bottom, it will bounce a few times. Once at the bottom, pull up on the line hard to cause the jig to jump up. An insect that looks crippled will try its best to move toward the surface of the water. Coming to the surface in a jerking motion is the kind of lure trout will go after. Make the jig mimic a wounded insect and you may find a nice size trout on your hook.

Trout Bait

There are fishermen that don’t use anything else but trout bait. Live bait like night crawlers are one of the most popular. Bait powder, cheese and others are available. If you stop by a sporting goods store or sport fishing shop you will get an idea of how many different types of bait are available. When it comes to trout bait, live bait is the best.

Chad Hanson is a scientist by training, a sociologist by degree, a pragmatist, and a bit of a skeptic. But when he gets within a mile of a trout stream his thoughts become cloudy, he loses manual dexterity, and tends to babble and shuffle around without regard for logic or reason. Chad Hanson is a fly fisherman. From the banks of the Tomorrow River in north central Wisconsin to the North Platte in Wyoming, and anywhere in between, Hanson presents eleven literary sketches that offer the world through the fly fisher??’s eye. "Swimming with Trout" uses the sport of angling as a vehicle to address broader issues such as the plight of Native Americans, the state of the environment, consumerism, property rights, species extinction, and the depth of human friendship. Whether he is reflecting on the multimillion dollar industry fly fishing has become, contemplating the ethics of the sport, or wondering what musical instrument a brook trout would play if it could, Hanson’s vignettes drive at the heart of the force that turns an ordinary person into a passionate angler. "Whether you fly fish or not, you’ll love this romp across the West with Chad Hanson who takes you from the Bighorns to Bozeman and Arizona toWisconsin in search of elusive trout and wild places. And when you have closed the last page, you’ll hold out hope that there still are Apaches in Arizona, and I’m not talking about Indians."–Candy Moulton, author of "Roadside History of Wyoming, Roadside History of Colorado," and "Chief Joseph: Guardian of the People" "Picking up a fiberglass pole in a sporting goods store, Chad Hanson gives it ‘the old retail waggle.’ This book deserves better–actualpurchase–and just becauseof its accuracy and good cheer. Hanson is the first writer ever to confess to fooling Coloradans into thinkingWyoming carp are German browns, and to donning a wetsuit to count coup on rainbows. What more could a reader ask for?"–Tom Rea, author of "Bone Wars" and "Devil’s Gate"

Fly Fishing for Kamloops Trout

Fly Fishing for Kamloops Trout

$56.19

Fly fishing for the wily Kamloops Trout of British Columbia is a thrill for anyone who tangles with one of those powerful, leaping giant, silvery fish. They’re known for smashing hard strikes and their aerial acrobatics. Ray Gould brings his 50 years of experience chasing these trout all over the province of British Columbia. Known for his expertise in building bamboo fly rods and in fly tying, Gould shares his knowledge here with those who want to know the best places to go, how to improve their skills and what fly patterns are the most successful. "Fly Fishing for Kamloops" reveals a vast amount of information for the angler. Details about the 26 best lakes in B.C., photos and tying instructions for some sixty (60) of the best fly patterns, explanations and data about "Triploid" trout, lake planting, and how to get an edge (on the other anglers) are all provided here. Anglers will find this book an amazing resource. Gould has for many years owned a cabin on Glimpse lake, B.C. and spends much of his time with friends prowling the shoals and drop offs for the mighty Kamloops trout. He has personally fished a great many of the lakes and sends data to the Fresh Water Fishing Society of British Columbia each year to help them determine fish planting rates. Ray Gould, a retired mechanical engineer and manager for Scott paper Company now resides in Bothell, Washington with his wife Susan. He has hand crafted some one hundred eighty (180) cane rods and has taught fly tying at two fly fishing clubs in the Seattle area. Fly fishers may also be familiar with two (2) other books he has published "Constructing Cane Rods" and "Cane Rods – Tips and Tapers."

Richard Brautigan was a literary idol of the 1960s and 1970s whose comic genius and iconoclastic vision of American life caught the imagination of young people everywhere. He came of age during the Haight-Ashbury period and has been called "the last of the Beats." His early books became required reading for the hip generation, and Trout Fishing in America sold two million copies throughout the world. An indescribable romp, the novel is best summed up in one word, "mayonnaise."Brautigan was a god of the counterculture, a phenomenon who saw his star rise to fame and fortune, only to plummet during the next decade. Driven to drink and despair, he committed suicide in Bolinas, California, at the age of forty-nine. This new edition, with an introduction by tk, will be published on the 75th anniversary of Brautigan’s birth.

Remember when you were a kid sitting on the bank beside some lake or watering hole with your pole dangling in the water, a night crawler on the hook, hoping a fish would bite? Sometimes you would get a bite and other times you would get just a nibble. Your bait would be gone, but the fish didn’t get hooked. People still fish that way. Some may use a boat, but they are still using the conventional method of fishing. Fly fishing is another method of fishing. It is well known as a method to catch trout and salmon, but a lot of anglers are now trying to catch different species other than trout or salmon. Fly fishing is a challenging method of catching fish. Anglers having been introduced to fly fishing determine that fly fishing is enjoyable. Learn how to choose a rod, reel and a fly line and tips how to take care of it.

 Fishing Yesterday's Gulf Coast

Fishing Yesterday’s Gulf Coast

$11.09

Renowned fishing guide Barney Farley worked the Texas coastal waters out of Port Aransas for more than half a century. In these stories and reflections, Farley imparts a lifetime of knowledge about fish_silver trout, sand trout, speckled trout, redfish, ling, catfish, jack, kingfish, you name it_and gives advice about how to fish, where to fish, and when to fish.Perhaps no one could chronicle the changes in sport and commercial fishing along the Central Texas Coast more ably and more passionately than Farley. When he came to Texas in 1910, he reported that he could get in a rowboat and using only a push pole, make his way “to the fishing grounds and catch a hundred pounds or more of trout and redfish” in a few hours. A couple of years later, the shrimp trawlers arrived. As they plied the Gulf in increasing numbers, they depleted the shrimp populations in the bays, and Farley watched the fish move farther and farther offshore, following their ever more elusive food source. From his perspective in the mid1960s, Farley was not satisfied simply to lament the disappearance of onceabundant species. He also strongly voiced his views on the need for conservation. Many of the problems he identified are still with us, and some of the solutions he prescribed have since been adopted. This book is both an appealing reminiscence and a cautionary tale. Anyone who cares about fishing and the health of the Gulf’s waters will find an authoritative and completely engaging voice in Barney Farley.

In the Background Is a Walled City

What if Santa Claus had given up on mankind and his most famous reindeer turned into a homicidal alcoholic? This alternate history is narrated by William Stonecutter, a young man orphaned as an infant who never grew beyond 3.5 feet tall. The world has gone to hell in a handbasket and William intends to do something about it. He and a weary fellowship of carnival outcasts embark on a quest to the North Pole. They make a desperate plea to Santa: rid the world of evil so it can once again be clean and safe for democracy. Michael Hemmingson”s fantasy of the absurd and the weird calls to mind such great works as Gnter Grass”s The Tin Drum, Robert Coover”s The Public Burning, Philip K. Dick”s The Man in the High Castle, and Richard Brautigan”s Trout Fishing in America — combining them all into one heck of a wild sleigh ride of a post-postmodern SF adventure!

They are, in fact, like all other fish in the world, capricious, and you have to exercise the virtue of patience, and be thankful when you get them in the humour. The tackle used for this big strong fish should be of the Tar n very best ; hence my advice to the English angler Tackle, proceeding to Florida is to expend a portion of his time on landing in New York so as to put together his equipment thoroughly. The rod is generally a bamboo pole, as shown in the frontispiece illustration, with a short butt of about The Rod. 1- feet in length, and the entire length of the implement should not be more than 7 feet. After the moreor less limber salmon and trout rods of the old country, this rod handles very strangely at first, but you will soon fall into the right manner of using it; it proves very powerful, and it is surprising how far you can cast with it. A tarpon rod can be bought in New York for £2 or less, and those at the figure I name, as I can vouch from experience, are really good. As there is always a chance of killing a 200 Ib. tarpon, or something heavier still; as, moreover, there are accidents by flood and field to be always guarded against by the prudent sportsman, I should advise taking three rods and sets of tackle, although I only took two. Mr. E. Vom Hofe, of New York, is, as already stated, himself a very successfultarpon fisher; he has therefore taken great pains to perfect all details of tackle for tarpon fishing after consultations with brother anglers, and, from his and their experience, is therefore both practical and reliable. The best class of butt, includ…
